Youth Swim Lessons
YMCA Swimming Program
The YMCA Youth Swim Program is a nationally recognized program for children ages 6 through 14 years. Children progress through several different levels of classes as they learn new skills and improve their strokes. Instructors teach skills that help children learn personal growth, pool safety, stroke development, water sports and rescue skills.
POLLIWOG I - SMALL POOL
A class for new and beginner swimmers. Children are introduced to basic swimming skills with a focus on becoming comfortable in the water.
POLLIWOG II - LARGE POOL
A class for advanced beginner swimmers. Children are introduced to basic swimming skills with a focus on building endurance and gaining confidence in deep water.
GUPPY - LARGE POOL
Swimmers are introduced to Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke and will work on treading water. Technique is the most important component in this class. Good boy roll for both strokes and aligned body position.
MINNOW - LARGE POOL
An intermediate swim class for those who posses a good Freestyle and Backstroke. This class will focus on perfecting Breaststroke. Egg beater kick is intro- duced, and Breaststroke kick is perfected.
FISH - LARGE POOL
An advanced swim class for those who possess a good freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. This class will focus on perfecting butterfly, as well as diving.
FLYING FISH - LARGE POOL
An advanced plus class for those who possess a good freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Flip-turns and racing starts will be the main focus of this class. Endurance for all four strokes will be improved. This class will get the swimmer ready for our Riptides swim team. (Only with Head Coaches approval can they sign up for swim team.)
